FAQ
Registrations for the Back 9 Endurance Race have been rolling in, and with that, questions! I have 3 common questions that I would love to address, as I know these 3 questions are probably holding many people back from hitting that “submit registration” button. So read on, and if any of these questions have run through your head, just know that you are not alone!
Q: Will I die?
A: Absolutely probably not.
Q: I’ve only ever run X-amount of miles, can I do it?
A: Can you do it? Yes. Should you do it? Also yes. Run a few miles, or run all the miles, there is no limit or minimum. It’s the perfect opportunity to try out new distances, without that DNF looming over your head. You stop, we record your miles, and that is your finish!
Q: But I’m slow…(ok, not really a question)
A: Slow is fine. Slow is good! What’s one of the first rules in ultra running? Start slow, and then back off. If your goal is to keep moving forward as long as possible, then slow will be key. Throw in a walking lap. Crawl a loop. Just keep going!
So the bottom line is, don’t let the “12 or 24 hours” sound intimidating. This style of racing gives you the freedom to customize the run to your own personal goals. Set a distance goal. Or, commit to moving forward the whole 12 or 24 hours. Or, just wing it and come out to see what happens! In the words of Nick Miller, “I know this won’t end well, but the whole middle part is gonna be awesome!”
Don’t forget, you can share the FUN and run in teams! The best way to do that is to just sign up your friends without telling them. It works, I promise.
We will have drinks, food, and friends, so at the very least you get to hang out and swap stories at the gorgeous Keweenaw Mountain Lodge.
See you on the course!
