Race Director: Chris Guibert

Chris has been an avid individual-athlete his entire life. As a child he was a cross country runner, skateboarder and surfer. In 1988 while in college at the University of Arizona he purchased his first mountain bike. From that moment on mountain biking became the focus of his life. He worked in bike shops and became a tour guide leading trips across the West. The pinnacle of his guiding career was to lead a seventy five day tour down the Continental Divide Mountain Biking Route in 1998. Throughout his career in mountain biking he has worked on many events including the Fat Tire Festival in West Virginia, The Greater Arizona Bicycling Association’s cross-state ride, and handling the logistics for Dirt Camp on their Volvo-Cannondale training camps. Since moving to the Keweenaw he has spent five years on the Events Committee for the Copper Harbor Trails Club. While at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge he has spearheaded the Upper Peninsula Dark Sky Festival and helped with the Back 9 Endurance Run (B9ER) the last two years; you might remember him as the event photographer for the B9ER.

From Chris: “My goal is to make the Back 9 Endurance Run a fun, joyous and adventuresome event. I want to create a welcoming environment that helps runners attain their personal goals and have some fun in the process. As I go through the learning curve as race director of the event please feel free to ask me any questions or make suggestions of what I can do to make your experience great!”
