Practice makes perfect!

The inaugural 2020 Back 9 Endurance Race was to be held May 16, 2020. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions we had to cancel it.

What did we do on that fine Saturday instead? We worked on a special project with Trail Genius and Experience the Keweenaw! Mariah, Back 9 Race Director, went for a run on the Back 9 trails with a backpack camera. As well, a drone and other cameras captured different views of the trails. This footage included some narrative from the interview between Jason from Trail Genius and Mariah. From that, a short virtual experience of the Back 9 trails and the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge will be made. Look for that event soon on the Experience the Keweenaw Facebook page!

This past weekend, we worked on another special project. We set up the course for the Back 9 race and invited local runners to come and give it a go. Runners who ran the course at least once and provided feedback are invited to register for the new inaugural 2021 race at a 15% discount. We gathered some great feedback! It is all being put to good use to make the 2021 race even better. The number 1 suggestion?…More reflective flags! During course set up, we really felt like we were putting out even more flags than necessary. This really showed us how fresh perspective from a runner who has never been on the course is so valuable!

Other feedback included the well laid out course, it’s hilly enough to be fun but not so that it was unmanageable, and overall a beautiful course.

It was so fun watching runners enjoy the course! We appreciate everyone who took the time to come up and run. See you all in 2021!
